Blah. My grandma stopped taking her pills a couple of years ago and she kinda went crazy. She just came back into my life this past summer and it’s been hard to get over what happened. She just had surgery and the pills she is on are messing her up and she’s going crazy again. My dad called and told me not to answer her phone calls. As awful as this sounds, this could be a good thing....

The only valid explanation I’ve heard is that the latter has implied sarcasm.
I’m pretty sure that 99% of the people that say “I could care less,” have absolutely no idea that any sarcasm is present in their statement.
